Fr. Damian Flanagan

Fr. Damian Flanagan was born in 1962 in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, to a close-knit rural family. He came to the United States in 1992 as an ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Miami..

Growing up in a rural community, the Young Damian spent his time outdoors helping his father, who was also Headmaster of a primary school. For Fr. Damian the decision to become a priest emerged out of a cultural milieu steeped in spirituality. Right after graduating high-school, he joined the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order. During his time with the Salesians he studied Philosophy and Music at the National University of Ireland and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. After six years, he decided to leave the order and went to live in Chicago. Upon his return to Ireland, he studied Theology at All Hallows College in Dublin, and was ordained a priest in 1991.

Before he became a priest, he considered the possibility of devoting himself entirely to music as a violinist. His intense desire to assist others in finding the deepest meaning of life was the most important reason for his becoming a priest. Throughout his priesthood, Fr. Flanagan’s greatest joy has been helping and supporting others.

Fr. Damian enjoys playing the violin, and it has been a constant companion in his years of ministry. He has served several parishes in the Archdioceses of  Miami such us: Good Shepherd, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Augustine, St. Andrews, St. Gregory  and now St. Hugh. He was also chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy.
